Gay Scriptural Texts

I am debating as to whether to leave this section up on my web page. Since I no longer believe the Bible (or any other holy writ) I am a little uncomfortable with it's presence here.

However, this is most certainly a part of who I was and without that part I could not have been where I am today. I know there are still many young gay people who are struggling with the deceitful interpretations I grew up with. I know those interpretations (foisted solely by those who desire to maintain power over their congregates [even if their motives are pure as the driven snow]) are doing the same, tragic damage to gay folks today as it did in years past.

For now I will leave this section up in hopes that at least it will provide thought and discussion for those who struggle with such issues.

Traditional interpretations of scripture hinge the supposed condemnation of homosexuality on seven small passages. The other passages occasionally quoted merely reiterate or comment on these seven passages. I have included (in parenthesis) some of those incidental references.

THE OLD TESTAMENT

Genesis 19:1 — 11
(Jude 6 & 7; 2 Peter 2: 4 & 6 — 8)

Leviticus 18:22

Leviticus 20:13

Judges 19:21 — 27

THE NEW TESTAMENT

Romans 1:26 & 27

1 Corinthians 6:9 & 10

1 Timothy 1:9 — 11
